Volunteers play important, active roles in telling the public about NIDC and its programs and projects. Community centers, churches, malls, and businesses host the health fairs where volunteers display diabetes information. Handouts about diabetes are also available.

How to become a Volunteer:

  • Become a member of NIDC
  • Be willing to provide service
  • Take a short training session

Examples of where volunteers have been active at health/wellness fairs include:

Corporate: Landstar Inway, Hamilton-Sundstrand, Chrysler, and Haldex Barnes

Faith-based: Zion Lutheran Church, Macedonian Baptist Church, Black Health Care Initiative Coalition, and OSF Parish Nurses’ sponsored event

County Fair: NIDC volunteers staffed the NIDC Boone County Fair booth for 6 days in August 2006 and will again in 2007

Other events: Center for Sight and Hearing, Green Giant and Illinois Migrant Council.
